'I want to tell you about your heart-you've probably been neglecting your heart-and you don't know.'

The title of this post is from one of my favorite books that I'm currently re-reading, This Side of Paradise by the incredible F. Scott Fitzgerald. And like the protagonist of the story, Amory Blaine, I've also been neglecting something: my blog!

Shame on me, but here are some updates on my busy life from the past two weeks:
Last weekend was my BFF Tracy's wedding and it was absolutely perfect. All the girls stayed the weekend at the Villa at Arden Hills Country Club where she got married. Everything was wonderful, from the gourmet breakfasts every morning, to the relaxing yoga session, to the rehearsal dinner, the afterglow brunch, and of course, the gorgeous wedding. Check out her fabulous blog here for all the details, but here are a few pictures in the meantime:

This past weekend I went to the Sac City football game on Friday night with my Dad to watch my friends Andy & Cody play. On Saturday I woke up early, took my puppy for a walk to the corner coffee shop, and went to enjoy the Second Saturday Artwalk in midtown Sacramento with my best friend Kristine. Today I plan on enjoying the breezy autumn prelude weather and reading.

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and an even better week ahead!

The Legacy Lives On

Although I graduated from San Diego State in May, I was recently interviewed for the campus newspaper, The Daily Aztec, about my future endeavors in Barcelona. Read the article by Aminata Dia here. I miss San Diego dearly, but I'm SOOO excited about the opportunity in Barcelona!!

What a Wonderful Weekend

It's Monday, and although I'm exhausted from this weekend, I finally got to see some of my good friends from San Diego!!
Friday, my mom had her annual beginning of the year party at our house. It was nice to be home for it this year (it's weird what you end up missing when you're away at college!) My best friend/college roommate, Kristine, came to visit that night as well and we went to a party at my friend Chelsea's house.
Saturday, Kristine & I slept in until 11, which felt amazing, went grocery shopping at my favorite supermarket, rode bikes around my neighborhood, ate lunch at the park, and got pedicures. After she left, I got ready to drive to San Jose to visit my friend Mike who starts grad school at SJSU this week. We went out to some bars in Sunnyvale & had tons of fun.
I drove back home Sunday afternoon, hung out with my parents & my adorable puppy, watched the new Mad Men and celebrated FCB winning the Spanish Super Cup!!
Long weekend, but amazing. Today was my first day of work at my new job & everything ran smoothly. Hope you all had a great weekend & a great week!

Freedom of Speechlessness

In light of the recent heated debates on health care reform taking place at town hall meetings throughout the country, I wanted to address something that's extremely disheartening to me and quite frankly, terrifying: citizens carrying assault weapons to these rallies where their fellow Americans and the President of the United States are present as a display of their "freedom." I realize that they are "exercising" their 2nd amendment right because they may feel that some of those rights are supposedly in danger of being taken away by Obama's healthcare reform, but where was their outrage in 2001 during the Bush administration when the USA Patriot Act entered our American lives, stripping us of some of our beloved rights in order to "ensure our safety"? I see the actions of these gun toting citizens as dangerously irresponsible and embarrassingly undemocratic. In this case, actions are speaking louder than words, and I find it difficult to listen to someone's views and take their opinions to heart when staring at that loaded gun slung over their shoulder.

This weekend I was in Las Vegas for my BBF, Tracy's, Bachelorette party weekend along with three of her other bridesmaids, Kelly, Adrianna, & Casey, and her maid of honor/sister, Julie, and it was beyond amazing.

We arrived Friday afternoon and stayed at the beautiful Venetian where we had a suite on the 14th floor with a great view overlooking the pools. After shopping and exploring the strip, the six of us attempted to go to the new club at the Wynn, XS, but had a bad experience with a certain Butters (if that is your real name...) and called it a night. Saturday was by far the best day. We had drinks by the pool at Tao Beach, met a promoter (thanks Waldo!) who hooked us up big for later that night. After a late lunch and some rapid roulette, we got ready and had the best time at TAO nightclub: open bar, free VIP table, dancing, tons of pictures, and and overall successful first official Vegas trip. Cheers to an unforgettable Bachelorette party and what's sure to be an even better wedding in September!

Summer Lovin'

This afternoon, my mom & I saw 500 Days of Summer and we LOVED it! Aside from the fact that I adore Zooey Deschanel [Elf, Weeds, Tin Man], it was a great modern indie (though the word makes me cringe) film about relationships and what love means, and doesn't mean, to our generation. I highly recommend it to fans of chick flicks, love stories, reality, emotion, and hope. If you see it, share your thoughts with me!!

They say you never forget your first time...

This being my first blog, and subsequently my first blog post, I'd like to begin by thanking my BFF Tracy for helping me create it and teaching me everything she knows (and she knows a lot!) about the blogging universe.

Aside from this being an outlet for expressing my thoughts and feelings, it's also a place where I am able share my life with the amazing people in it, and perhaps some that have yet to enter it. Hopefully this post will be the beginning of something wonderful!
